Aldred’s Artists 2- Holly Wilson

Hey, So I’m back again 🙂 After a lovely response to the first ‘Aldred’s Artists’ post I’ve decided to make this a regular feature. Every Tuesday I will be featuring an upcoming or underground artist for you guys to check out and follow. With this I am hoping to give exposure to these amazing creatives and give you guys a boost of inspiration. So without further a due let’s get to know my second featured artist.

I met Holly Wilson on our first day of University and immediately took a shine to her work as well as her imaginative personality. With her love of Tim burton which can be hinted in her illustration work and her immense amount of detail, we were instantly on the same wave length. She has a strong use of line work and her use of colour and texture feels very natural and botanical. Each Illustration takes you away to a fairytale land and an insight into this Lady’s beautiful imagination. Her recent work as part of ‘Dilapidated Eden‘ is unique and intriguing and I can’t wait to see more. So let’s begin and talk to Holly herself.

 How do you work?

I make my personal illustrations using Digital software such as photoshop and illustration, however I always start a design with hand drawn images and paint textures. I then combine them using digital tools. I like how it gives my work a bright, organic feel.

I am also one half of Arts and crafts project Dilapidated Eden, we specialise in hand painted glass. I really enjoy finding new techniques and fresh new ways of making our glass art stand out from the crowd.

What work do you most enjoying doing?

I enjoy producing anything creative, I like getting unusual commissions that push me as an artist.

Anything that I find inspiring at the time, I am currently working on a set of ‘New York’ themed glasses.

Taking trips to beautiful places always inspires me, I always want to draw or photograph new exciting places. My next trip is to Toronto, niagara Falls and NYC

What makes you angry?

How clumsy I am at times.

 What is your dream project?

I would really love an Arts and crafts shop, selling personal art work and the stuff I collectively make with ‘Dilapidated Eden‘. I would also love to be able to run workshops there. This would be the ultimate dream project.

Favourite or most inspirational place?

The forest near I live. It’s always so beautiful and peaceful I like to take my camera and shoot the seasons. I also love a local museum in Bewdley, I love the gardens there during the summer.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

The best piece of advice Ive ever been given would be ‘always be yourself, never conform to what people expect.’

Do you have any projects upcoming or gone that you would like to tell us about?
